Patience, responsibility team spirit, outstanding memory and sound concentration level, flexibility and accountability, etc. are some common personality qualities which are important for professional growth in architecture and design. But it is right documentation in academics which matters most in architecture wherein students with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the 10+2 standard only can apply for the admission of architecture at the graduate level.
Numerous colleges offer undergraduate level course in B.Arch. (Bachelor in Architecture) which lasts for 5 years. The selection is completed through an entrance exam performed by the Council of Architecture throughout India. On the other hand engineering colleges choose candidates on the basis of the result to the suitable engineering courses. Similarly, some private colleges sponsored courses in architecture have their own criteria which are based on +2 standard marks of students. Candidates interested to gain further knowledge in architecture can pursue post-graduation in architecture for 2 years.


Is it the Right Career for Me
Architects design structures and provide physical face-lift as well as offer functional utility, economy and safety. Funding/Scholarship
Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships for students of Architecture who desire to pursue higher education. The scholarship is given to the brilliant students from India who has no other source of financing their studies. According to the guidelines of course issued by the trust, the scholarships are awarded on a fifty % grant: fifty % loan basis. application are invite only one time in  a year in June or July and students with excellent academic records, financial need, admission to a trustworthy and reputed institution of  further learning, etc. only are entitled for the scholarship.


60 National abroad Scholarships are provided to students belonging to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Semi-Nomadic Tribes and De-notified Nomadic etc. US$6,600 per year is the amount which is paid to qualified student doing the Master degree. However, Ph.D students can get US $7,700 per year. There are other scholarships which are being provided to unprivileged praiseworthy students in several government aided institutes. in addition toppers, candidates who top in entrance exams sponsored by the private institutes get attractive concession in fees. Education loans are available to candidate from nationalized and private banks at attractively low interest rates.


Job Prospects
Architects can work with construction industries wherein they are asked to serve their services as a designer. Firstly an architect is expected to know specific requirements of customers and strike an exact balance between aesthetics and practicality. Furthermore, an architect with abilities can assist clients by his ideas and plans in terms of balancing the requirements of appearance, budget and time schedule. Some architects even work separately and make their livelihood through consultancy fees which completely depends upon the skills, efforts and as well as work experience.


Maximum jobs in architecture come up in government sector such as Public Works Department, National Institute of Urban Affairs, The Archaeological Department, Housing and Urban Development, Departments of Railways, Post and Telegraphs Ministry of Defense, National Building Construction Corporation Ltd. National Building Organization, Town Planning Organization, Public Sector Undertakings etc. While some other organizations or sectors like State Departments, Local bodies for construction works, appoint architects, Builders, Housing Boards, Consultants, Architecture industries etc.

Salary Package
Initially salary for an Architect can be in the range of Rs. 20,000 - 30,000. The development is registered after two plus years. Students with work experience of more than five years can get salary in the range of Rs. 50,000 - 60,000. Moreover, when enormous investment from private and government real estate developers is coming up, a vast crunch of qualified architects is being felt. The initially salary can be even higher than average Indian salary if the student is from premier architecture college. In addition to architects who have done some specialization course in building engineering and architectural conservation, management, landscape architecture, industrial design, naval architecture, transport planning and architecture concerning traffic etc. too have brilliant career prospects in the USA and other western countries which are finding  sustainable development and settlement. Most of the abroad jobs in architecture come from private sector.


Different Roles - Different Names
• Architect: Simply an architect is someone who has got training from an architecture institute on the planning, oversight of the construction of buildings and design. Commonly, architects are registered (licensed) to practice architecture. An architect either can work separately or for some architecture firm or real estate developing company.
• Architecture Designer: Professionals who are belongs to in designing houses and other buildings. However, these are not registered (licensed) like an architect but perform a number of jobs such as designing buildings, agricultural buildings and designing light-frame buildings including of family homes, etc. Some additional roles for architecture designers may contain designing of decorative malls or big to small sized buildings.
• Architecture Engineer: Architecture Engineers have dual qualification of architect and a civil engineering. Bestowed with the duty to offer the services of an architect and engineer, such professionals have great demand in market.
• Interior Designer: Career in interior designing belongs to men; women found it attractive and do courses in interior décor, interior designing, etc. Trained designer can work with interior designing company offering services in serene interiors, furniture designing, bedroom interior, home interior, bathroom interior, kitchen, etc.
